Sunroom

Sunroom:

HEY! My husband and I just bought a beautiful old home. Bad thing is it’s outdated. It was built in the 1970’s and nothing has been updated since. You could tell back when it was built it was made with expensive high-end fixtures but it still looks like it came right out of the 1970’s.

One of the rooms that we love is the sunroom. We knew right away we wanted it to be for the kids. We (like most people) were sharing our living room with the kids toys and it was getting very hard to not stub your toe or twist an ankle and getting a glass of water without making some new toy go off like church bells in the middle of the night waking up the entire neighborhood was out of the question! LOL

The previous owners were using this room as a dog pen. It smelled like dog pee, everything was dirty with dog hair and dirt, the ramps and doggy doors were screwed to this beautiful rough oak wood with no less than 15 screws each! This was the way the last owner left it:

After a few days and the help of my mom we scrubbed the bricks, aired out the room, cleaned and restored the wood, laid down mats and brought in all the toys! Can you imagine all these toys in a 20’X19′ Living room with a U-shaped couch, end tables and an ottoman?! I don’t know how we did it. LOL

A few things that this room could not live without:

Drawers! Even though we do not care if this room gets messy I still like that everything still has a place. And cleaning up ever once in a while, I feel, teaches my kids how to treat their things and one day they hopefully will have respect for other people’s things as well.

Mats! We have a 3-year-old and a 7 month old (just started crawling). These mats are thick and squishy! They have saved so many falls from my oldest when she was learing to walk and I know they will do the same with my youngest. In our last home we turned the garage into a little play area in the winter so we could still “be outside” but not in the snow and rain. These mats were perfect! We even use them under her kiddie pool!IMG_5970

These are my husbands favorite items in our home. LOL He uses these drawers for so many things. In our last home they were used in our closet for clothing, We had them in the garage to o

We have used these mats for everything! In our old house we used them on the garage floor to protect our oldest from falling and hitting her head on the concrete. We have used them outsi

Wood restore and cleaner! With the dogs and the sun damage we HAD to save this beautiful wood! I did a lot of research and finally found a product that did wonders! You can see the difference in the wood. The ledge is a little darker and looks conditioned while the windowsills looks lighter and dried out. I sprayed it on the ledge and not the windowsil almost a year ago. It has protected the wood so well from the sun! I am going to redo everything again just to make sure I didn’t miss anything and also do the rest of the wood I haven’t done. It is a lot of wood but it will be so worth it!

With all the wood in this sunroom I knew I would have to clean and treat it. I found this awesome product made by Pledge. At first it darkened the wood a little but once it soaks in it pscrub brush ad

Adult seating! Since we spend most of our time with the kids, adult seating was a must! I was not going to sit in a tiny kid seat or on the floor the whole time. Lol. Have I mentioned I was 7 1/2 month pregnant when we put this room together? There’s another reason we got comfy seating. Lol With how rough kids can be we decided to go with patio furniture in here. So far it has held up very nicely with all the abuse.

All in all this was a fun room to redo. It gets the most usage and we like it very much. I was so happy to be able to give my children their own play area. When they grow up we plan on changing it agin but next time it will have our toys. 😀 Air hockey table, pool table, shuffle board table and foosball table with a flat screen. 😀 HeHeHe
